Dola Yatra (ଦୋଳ ଯାତ୍ରା)
Dola Yatra (A Spring Festival)
--------------------------------------------------------
A traditional Odia festival celebrated by the villagers.A holy occasion especially for the worship of lord "Krishna" and "Radha".This festival is celebrated when the fairly "Green Mangoes" is ready to ripe.
On these days the first grown mangoes on mango tree are gifted to the lord as "Prasad/voga(an Odia term , which means to offer any food to the lord)".
On the very morning, people used to be very excited for the occasion. They just found busy preparing different items for Prasad making. And definitely this is a day of the small kids, boys and girls. This day is a holiday for them. They just wander everywhere in the village and busy playing different games like "Luchakali, kabaddi, sadhei vanga and lot more".
Yah,This is afternoon. Now nearly 7 to 8 Asthan(Odia term, it's a small temple like structure made with wood and cotton and only the front side of it is opened) is prepared with the "Idol of sri krisna and radha" inside it.Asthan in odia is also called "Bivana".The image is as follows.
(Asthana of lord krishna)
In the evening all the "Asthana" gathered on the premises of the village temple. This is called "Melana(An odia term)".The priest does some rituals and "Puja and arati".The place is just tuned with the sound of "Sankha, Hulahuli" and "Ghanta ghanta".People just bowed down and offer "pranam" to Lord Krishna in front of every "Asthan".Children found busy playing games in groups/gangs . Then all the "Asthana" just be taken to (in front of) the house of the individual family.
Every villager used to make some arrangement in front of their house for the worship of Lord Krishna inside the cart(Asthana). So the cars(Asthana) are taken into the village one by one. And I want to mention that the carts don't have any wheel. Four people shouldered every cart (Asthana) that means four people carry the cart(Asthana) on their shoulder by which the cart(Asthana) moves from one place to another.
Then people worship the car(Asthana) one by one in front of their house with lots of etables offered as "voga(chana buta, kakara pitha, kadali(banana),seo(apple)" to the "Lord Krishna" and then finally the holy day is well spent with lots of happyness.
Jhulana jatra (Swing festival )
---------------------------------------------
After some days of Dola Jatra(Melana), in the evening of jhulana festival at "Village Tample" ,all the people of the village gathers. Then there is an Asthana, which is in a swinging position.
People one by one offers "voga" and "pranam" in front of the Asthana.
In front of the Asthana, people put a mat("pala" in odia) and all the villagers sit over there on that mat. Then a person reads "panji (a book where information is given about the future cultivation, weather information, lunar and solar eclipse and the flood and earth-quake")
*And all the above rituals are really really awesome and a good memory.
